Our Story
PULSE was established as a UC San Diego-based undergraduate organization in September 2025 by 4 student founders: Eleanor Jung, Kathleen Cheng, Lana Chuang, and Sriya Bairy. Having been involved in a diverse set of experiences including hospital volunteering, biological research, MedTech startups and more, the team felt a need for better communication in the MedTech field. They saw a particular disconnect between public and patient understanding of cutting-edge, potentially life-saving medical technologies. As a journal, PULSE was founded to provide a platform for bridging these populations and science together.

Hi! I'm Eleanor, a third-year neurobiology major in Sixth College. Besides learning more about the fascinating MedTech space, my research interests include neurodevelopmental disorders and other brain conditions. In my free time, I love traveling, learning new languages and drawing!

Lana Chuang
Vice President External
Hello my name is Lana and I’m majoring in Biology w/ specialization in Bioinformatics and minoring in CS. I’m interested in technologies and models related to early detection of disease and I’ve started to pursue this at Curtius Lab! Outside of school I love to listen to kpop, play piano, play badminton, play soccer, watch reality TV shows, and play video games!

Kathleen Cheng
Vice President Internal
Hii! I'm Kathleen, and I am majoring in Human Biology with a Minor in Cognitive Science. I am currently in a lab focusing on maternal, fetal metabolism and its effects. I am also interested in neurological disorders and development. In the future, I hope to become a Neurologist. For fun, I love to dance, draw, take photos, bake, and rewatch childhood shows. I have a dog named Bobo that I can't stop talking about.

Sriya Bairy
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Hi there! I’m Sriya, a third-year ERC student majoring in Neurobiology. I’m a premedical student with a strong passion for exploring the biological bases of neurological and psychiatric conditions through cutting-edge medical interventions, technologies, and biomedical innovations. I’ve had the opportunity to pursue these research interests by working with the Frank Lab on clinical studies. Outside of academics, you can find me singing, gardening, reading realistic fiction novels, and volunteering in my community. I’m excited to bring my curiosity and research perspectives to this club and help engage the UCSD student body with the ever-evolving world of MedTech
